Let’s Not Lose Our Focus in the Midst of Everything

Easy as 1-2-3: Chapter 123

Have you found yourself, lately, thinking, “How are we going to get through these trying days?” Well, as I was reading today’s Blogging Through The Bible passage, I thought to myself… why, it’s as easy as 1-2-3!!

And by “1-2-3,” I mean, Psalm 123!

It’s short, sweet, and directly to the point. On a side note, isn’t it interesting that, if we’ll just open up the Word, He’ll almost always lead us exactly where we need to go to hear exactly what He wants to tell us? How many prayers would we see answered if we only paid more attention to the Word He was leading us to?

I just wanted to go ahead and share the entirety of this Psalm with you here. I think you’ll see what I mean…

(Vs. 1) [[A Song of degrees.]] Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

(Vs. 2) Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

(Vs. 3) Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

(Vs. 4) Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

Choose to Wait

Waiting is hard. And in the world we live in, filled with attention spans that average 3.2 SECONDS, “right-now” church services on demand live streaming, and having everything you want or need delivered right to your doorstep, it almost feels like a travesty to have to WAIT!

But wait, we must.

And what’s more… think about the wording there in the second verse: so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God… What could that mean? Our “eyes” wait upon the Lord?

To me, that means we should be actively and consciously LOOKING for His Hand at work in our lives! What a joy that is, amen? To look, and watch, and wait, and THEN… to finally see His answer, even before it gets to us.

It’s a hard place. But we can align ourselves there. If we want to.

If It Had Not Been: Chapter 124

Here is another short, sweet chapter that speaks volumes with so few words. It’s one of my FAVORITE Psalms, and I love to read it when things feel a bit chaotic! Maybe you will too?

Look at the first couple of verses that say, If it had not been the LORD… Can’t we ALL say that, today? No matter where you find yourself. No matter what you’ve been through. No matter what “looks like” is coming.

If it had not been the LORD, who was on our side… Glory to God, what a thought! And one that David goes on to speak about in Psalm 124:3-5.

What Might Have Been

The Psalmist says, “if it had not been the LORD”…

  • They might have swallowed them up quick!
  • The waters might have overwhelmed them!
  • The stream might have gone over their souls!

It’s obvious David was thinking about what could have been. But he was more focused on what WAS! “Blessed be the LORD!” he says. God did not turn them into a prey, allowed to be devoured by their teeth.

Instead… and these are my favorite verses from this… Psalm 124:7-8 finishes out this chapter by saying:

Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Well, glory to God! Brothers and Sisters, that’s good news! Our help is in JESUS, who made heaven and earth! And we are provided a means of escape from the snare of the fowler!

It’s SO EASY to give in to discouragement, fear, wonder, and worry when it seems like the world is closing in around us. And there’s certainly no reason to turn a blind eye to what obviously requires our prayerful consideration.

However, we cannot forget “all his benefits”! We are heirs of the One True God. The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. The Creator of the universe and all that is in it. We can’t forget that we have “like precious promises” that are still ours… regardless of the goings on of the world.

The world is fallen, and in that state, will suffer violence as long as the enemy is the prince of the power of the air. Why do you think Satan was able to “offer” Jesus land and wealth while Jesus was fasting in the desert? Because he can control so much of it! It is our choice whether or not to accept the deal! Jesus gave us an example, to answer any and all things with prayer, fasting, and liberal application of the Word. Against these things, Satan has to flee!

Lord Jesus, help us to be reminded day by day, minute by minute, and second by second, if need be, that You are never further away than the mention of Your Name! Help us to focus our eyes on the Truth… on the Word… on all that is promised to us as Your children! We KNOW You won’t forsake us, Father… even in those things that we do not understand! Help us to remain steadfast, unmovable, and fastened to the rock on which we build. We ask it all in the Name of Jesus, Amen!

Thank you! <3 I really appreciate that and I'm so blessed that it struck a chord with you. Jesus is so good to reveal all these kinds of things and then allows us to extend them. Some in blog, some in YouTube videos, some in person... just so blessed to be part of the Body!! <3
