As a little girl, I use to try to walk in Daddy’s footsteps. Maybe some of you did too! You know how it goes. You’re following along behind him in the rain or snow, and it’s just unbearably tempting to try to match those big ole steps.

But, even though I tried really hard to match each one, his stride was so wide I sometimes just missed the mark. Sometimes I had to jump from one footprint to the next, and sometimes I still missed!

And you know what? I was so intent on those footprints of his, I never really paid any attention to anything else around me.

Did you know it’s a lot like that with God, too? His footsteps aren’t always easy to see, yet never out of plain sight. And MY GOODNESS, but they’re wide! I’ve missed them so many times while trying to walk this way.

I’m sure I will continue to miss them from time to time. But I’m gonna keep on trying.

You should too!

The Word Speaks About Our Footsteps

As you might imagine, the Bible has more than a thing or two to say about our footsteps. Every time I read one, I am reminded that we have to focus on following after God the way I followed after my Daddy.

I focused really hard on the footsteps. So much so that a war could have been going on around me, and I probably wouldn’t have noticed. I was focused!

A Few Words From David

Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

Psalm 18:36, KJV

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

Psalm 37:23, KJV

Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

Psalm 44:18, KJV

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious and foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Psalm 73:1-3, KJV

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Psalm 199:133, KJV

Now, Let’s Hear From a Few Others

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.

Proverbs 16:9

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

1 Peter 2:21

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:6, KJV

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

Proverbs 4:14, KJV

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Proverbs 4:26, KJV

Our Steps Are Important

The steps we take in our Christian walk are very important. Not only do they affect our own lives, but did you know, they can affect the lives of others as well?

My Mama had a saying all of our growing up years. She said, “You may be the only Bible that some people ever read.”

For years, I wondered what she meant. The truth is, people will watch you. Especially after you admit to being a new creation in Christ Jesus. If your walk doesn’t line up with your talk, you could create a mindset in the “watcher” that will be hard to change later on down the road.

Let’s keep aiming to match the steps of our Abba Father. Our Daddy. We will, from time to time, miss the mark. But let people see you keep on jumping, keep on focusing, and keep on following after that One True God.

Who knows? Maybe they will begin to follow too!
